There are many “truths” out there. How to tell which one is right?
Luk 11:35 Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.
Many people are firm in their beliefs.
They proclaim the truth as they see it, and describe others not in agreement as being the ones in darkness.
But what is deceptive is that their “light” is really darkness.
It is not the truth they think it is.
How does one’s definition of truth originate?
With both positive and negative use of our senses.
With the eye:
Luk 11:34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when [thine eye] is evil, thy body also [is] full of darkness.
Luk 11:36 If thy whole body therefore [be] full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.
What we allow to bring before our eyes influences our concept of truth. The images we view, the words we read.
If we allow only what is holy to come before us, and turn away from the unholy, the light will be true.
If we turn toward what is forbidden to view, then the darkness will become truth to us. This is the idea behind the occult, that its darkness is somehow more true and useful than God’s truth.
Refusing to see
Isa 56:10 His watchmen [are] blind: they are all ignorant, they [are] all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.
Mat 15:14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
Jhn 9:41 Jesus said unto them, If ye were [physically] blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remains.
Physical blindness is not a barrier. It is when we think we “see” the truth and hold onto our sins that we are spiritually blind. And that is a barrier.
Hearing well
Deu 12:28 Observe and hear all these words which I command thee, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee for ever, when thou doest [that which is] good and right in the sight of the LORD thy God.
Jhn 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.
Refusing to hear:
Isa 66:4 I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spoke, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose [that] in which I delighted not.
Jer 19:15 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear my words.
What we chose to hear and believe is a factor also.
And what we refuse to hear and believe will also influence our definition of light and truth.
Darkness is sin. Light is holiness.
The Light of the Divine is not found in mystical music with a good beat, or in a secular PhD’s lecture.
External darkness – sin in the world
Eph 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove [them].
Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places].
Internal darkness – sin in us
Mat 6:23 But if your eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great [is] that darkness!
1Jo 2:9 He that says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness even until now.
Avoid both external and internal darkness.
Darkness makes you blind.
So where do we start?
1. We start with the light of the Word, given directly by YHVH God to mankind.
The true light is evidenced by consistency throughout the ages, miraculous events, bringing goodness, destroying evil and harm, and the holiness and tangible presence of God. True light is creative, and builds up and frees our spirit.
Nature, in itself, declares the light and truth of God as well. All one has to do is observe, and listen.
This is the gold standard, by which all other “revelations” are compared.
2. Other thought systems, philosophies, religions, mystical ideologies, were initiated by man.
In some cases, these systems were initiated by principalities of darkness, not man. But man had to cooperate and accept them.
Deceptive light, based on man’s opinion, or incomplete truths, or no truth at all, is not creative. Our spirit remains bound.
3. So one has to line up what man teaches with what YHVH God has established as truth.
Personal opinion does not necessarily qualify as truth, no matter what the credentials of the person.
Many highly credentialed people have no regard for the truth.
Never put unholy man’s credentials over God’s sovereignty, holiness, omniscience and eternal truths.
To find truth, you have to exit the darkness.
The choice
WE can either choose the light, or choose the darkness.
We can open ourselves, our eyes, our ears, our senses, our minds, to the Word of God.
We cannot do this alone. We need the presence of the Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth.
Jhn 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.
Or we can welcome in darkness and lies into our lives.
There are consequences to our choices.
Jesus – Yeshua – first came to initiate the kingdom of God on the earth.
Believers were to spread the good news, and teach about the kingdom.
Jesus – Yeshua – will return to complete this work of righteousness, truth, and holiness.
Believers should be working now in the kingdom of God to pave the way for this final event.
Jesus – Yeshua – is the Son of God.
He will not need the assistance of any man, or alien force arriving in ships from another galaxy, or from under the earth somewhere.
So any movement, or book, or teaching, contrary to God’ truth is darkness, not light, no matter how interesting it is, or how impressive the leader.
This principle holds, even when it is done in the name of Jesus.
It is either divine truth, or it isn’t.
So think carefully, and look, and hear what God has really said.
Look to the Holy Spirit of God, not man, for Truth.
