Testimony of Monica U. – Christian Faith Healed My Rare Disease
On Jan. 4, 2008 I woke up to find myself paralyzed on the left half of my body. When I went to the emergency room later that day, I was hopeful (because some of my function in the left side of my body had been recovered).
After a battery of tests, a doctor came into my hospital room to tell me that my brain scans revealed a lesion. A few weeks later, during a follow-up with another doctor, I was told that based on the size and location of my lesion I should be in a coma. It was a miracle that I did not have permanent paralysis on my left side. The lesion was in my pons. (The area of the brain that controls heart rate and breathing, so a lesion is this area is considered lethal.)
Since 2008, I’ve endured lumbar punctures, bone marrow biopsies, MRIs, dozens of blood tests and multiple neurological specialists in search of a diagnosis. In October of 2010, I was finally diagnosed central Pontine Myelinolysis, (CPM) a rare, (sometimes fatal) and incurable disease. The doctors speculate that I most likely received this disease as a result of medical error during an IV treatment.
The doctors said that I would probably suffer permanent nerve damage and loss of sensation on my left side.
The Healing Power of Christ
Last November, I went to a local church recommended by my hairdresser. She said her church believed in connecting to the power of God and claiming His miracles. At this same time, I also had a childhood friend (who is now a minister) calling me every evening to pray with me and claim God’s healing. He told me to read the book The Supernatural Power of a Transformed Mind by Bill Johnson.
I decided to go to my hairdresser’s church. During the service, a man called people to the altar to ask for prayers. I was a visitor to the church and afraid to go up there. Aside from my shyness, my leg was hurting pretty bad from my (CPM).
I kept getting this urge that I should go forward. After watching the preacher go down the line of people I decided to go. I ended up standing in an area where the man had already passed, but be came back to me. I told him my story and that I had an incurable disease and he stopped me. He said that nothing is incurable with God. I don’t know why but that had never really occurred to me before! I had heard people say that and I knew the there were healing miracles in the Bible… but I never applied that truth to my condition.
This preacher laid hands on me and the church prayed for me. As he did, I could feel a “heat sensation” surging through my body and I began to feel my left foot! This is the first feeling I have had in that foot in over two years!
The preacher instructed me that healings take belief/faith. He said that it was important for me to ACT on my faith and LIVE my life as if I had already been healed (even if I did not feel it yet). I could not accept a healing and leave it at the altar. I had to take it with me. Since then I have been living like a healed woman.
I Have Been Healed and Living Normally
This past December I am happy to report that I returned to the gym for the first time since 2008. I still have times when I think my CPM is acting up, but it always turns out to me something like a muscle spasm. I’m still getting used to normal aches and pains. Every once in awhile I feel some numbness, but I know that I am healed.
Even if my body may still have a temporary flare-up, my mind is healed. I have conquered this disease. My new positive outlook has reduced the frequency and intensity of my flare-ups. (In fact, I wouldn’t even call them flare-ups anymore and when I do have symptoms, they are always connected with the fact that I let myself get stressed out!)
I guess my testimony is: I have been healed in my mind and that has led to the healing of my body. God is real and Faith is crucial for complete healing.
