“The wicked flee when no man pursueth; but the righteous are bold as a lion.” Proverbs 28:1
Today’s Christian daily devotional
The brilliant sun is bursting through my window as the birds are practically chirping for me to join them. What a perfect day for a walk in one of the greatest cities in the Midwest.
After a long and tedious morning of staring at my computer screen, I give up. I refuse to waste another ounce of this precious Chicago sunshine. In a few short weeks those glorious rays will be like a forgetful lover—stopping by on rare occasions and leaving just as quickly.
Bouncing out of my building with the vigor of a ten-year-old boy, the fresh air and magnificent skyline help me feel so much better about abandoning my ‘to-do’ list.
But, a dark cloud seems to hover over the corner of my block. A freshly painted billboard seduces my attention. The slick advertising of another new show on the demonic underworld halts me. On my short half an hour stroll, I pass two more similar advertisements. I cannot avoid them!
After my own personal experience of the very real world of the supernatural, it sickens me to watch Hollywood continuously glamourize spiritually lethal activities. Dabbling in the occult is not light entertainment—it is deadly to the body, soul and spirit of a person.
Despite the sunshine, my heart sinks to a dark place. I have younger siblings and friends who fall right into the crossfire that these advertisers are reaching out to.
This world seems to be getting bolder by the day in it’s pursuit of ungodliness. In a world is so unabashed in honoring anything ungodly; the ones who claim to love God must certainly step up their game. We, at the very least, should feel compelled to be just as equally bold in our stand for righteousness.
Everywhere you turn in this world, darkness is looming. This leads me to ask a very probing question: What are you going to do about it? Will you stifle the light within you for fear of offending the ones who have no issue offending your God?
Anyone that is brave enough to make a stand for character or higher morals finds themselves in a battle against the masses. Don’t let the fear of man stop you from pursuing your highest purpose: Reminding this world that there are other options.
I challenge you to be brave in shedding the light and hope of Christ to those who are drowning in darkness. This pursuit won’t be easy– but the benefits are eternal.
Deep in your heart, you’ve always known that you were born for greater things. What could be greater than helping someone else find the freedom that only Christ can bring?
“Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you that I am fearfully and wonderfully made in your image! Give me a lion’s heart to never accept the lies of this world as the truth.
I embrace the Word of God today, as I believe that this is the foundation for my self-worth and my model on how to live a good life. What the world esteems as important is a lie that only leads to disappointment, depression and death. I choose life; I choose your way today.
If you are for me, who can be against me? Only the world of darkness; but that is nothing for a God like you. Light always overcomes the dark–we see that truth in every new day that you give us. The brightness of the sun overpowers the darkest night.
Lord, bless this dark world. We need you. Help the ones who love you to be filled with your boldness, your light and your passion.
Give us a relentless pursuit of a life filled with righteousness and holiness. For when we live in agreement with your word, only then can we become that beacon of light to those trapped in the dark.
In Jesus’ precious name, give us eyes to see the war we are in and to take our mission of light with us everywhere that we go, Amen.”
