“For the love of money is the root of all evil; which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” 1 Tim. 6:10
Today’s Christian Daily Devotional
I have never met a person that did not wish to have more money. I think we all want to be blessed in this department; you would be crazy if you didn’t! But, the warnings of this verse should sober you up a bit. How many millionaires have taken their lives in the course of history? There was the famous Jesse Livermore, (the greatest bear on Wall Street), Ivan Krueger, (the head of the world’s great monopoly of his time) and Leon Frasier, (president of the Bank of International Settlement). All of these men took their own lives. They were powerful, world-changing millionaires. It would be safe to say that although money can provide a certain amount of security, it will never ensure your soul happiness. (How many rich miserable people do you know?) During my years as a dancer, waitress and bartender, I saw many millionaire drunks fumbling to buy their way to “happiness”. Witnessing this sad struggle in others and feeling it in myself made me realize (in my own journey for wealth and fame) that the end of that rainbow did not guarantee anything! Money and fame never will equal happiness. How many E! True Hollywood stories do we have to watch to figure that out? So, what brings happiness? What actually is happiness? We must define the very goal we are all targeting to reach if we are to ever get there… God is the answer. He created you with your individual personality and temperament and only He knows what will make you fulfilled and happy. A relationship with the God who created you is actually the ticket to finding out the happiness He created you for! Who knows you better than God and who else can enable you to achieve the dreams that He created for your life?
“Dear Heavenly Father,
What is a million dollars in the scope of eternity? Nothing. It is nothing to you, so it should be worthless to me as well. So much of our time on earth is wasted pursing things, positions and status that will not last. Lord, give me the fulfillment in my soul that will last. Bless my home with the riches that only you can provide; riches on the INSIDE. As the temptations of this life fade into the importance that you meant for them to have, let the glory of the things that really matter tempt me into the life of goodness and the eternal greatness that you created me for. I do not want have to loose it all for me to realize what it is all worth anyway. Give me that supernatural wisdom right now. I am investing all that I am for all that you are going to make me be. I don’t want to be worthless in your eyes, so give me the skill, the passion and the relentless purpose to be all that you created me to be. In Jesus’ name, I thank you for the redeeming what life I have left, Amen.”
