“He must increase, but I must decrease.” John 3:30-31
Today’s Christian Daily Devotional
These are the words of John the Baptist. He was sent before Christ, to pave the way for Christ. As I pondered these words, the first thing that came to mind was a church my husband and I had attended in the past. The reasons for us leaving were numerous, but one of the main issues we had was: We came to worship God, and it felt like the pastor himself was looking to be worshiped. This preacher was a very smooth and charismatic man, but after every message, I left feeling like HE was elevated more than God. I struggled with leaving the church, as fellowship with many of the parishiners was something I looked forward to every week. But, the Lord spoke strongly to my heart that my season there was over. I had to face the truth and ask myself: Was I going to church for the fellowship of others, or was I there to really worship God? After the source of my selfish motives for going was revealed to me, I left the church. Although I miss the people there a lot, I am confident that I have done the right thing. How do I know? Because I am getting more out of my prayer time and devotions than I ever had while I was attending that church. It was almost as if a veil had been lifted and I was seeing more clearly when I read the Bible, and hearing the voice of God more clearly when I prayed. I just wanted to share this experience with you in case you have been struggling with hearing God’s voice. Sometimes, (I believe) it “feels like” God is stepping away because maybe He is building your faith. In my case, I felt that the teaching I was under was not from Him, and that was obstructing His voice from being clear for me. Either way, I pray that no matter what, you always keep your eye on Him, and if you do, He will lead you back into HIS light again.
“Dear Heavenly Father,
I thank you that you have called all believers to hear your voice. That makes each one of us responsible when we know things are not right. I pray that you will bless each person that really desires to get to know you better with clarity and strength to leave a church or group of friends that don’t have your will in mind. Lord, you are the only thing that matters and I pray that you will send a spiritual support system for every believer that is struggling with hearing your voice clearly. Show them the way. Give them friends. Lead them into the light so we can all better serve you and fulfill our jobs here on earth. This is for your kingdom, all for your glory. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.”
