“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Corinthians. 5:17
Today’s Christian daily devotional
“I don’t even know why I married him in the first place.” Alice clicks her heels and her horse picks up speed. Bethany follows her lead, her filly trotting next to Alice.
“We were young and life was so different then.” Alice sets her jaw in determination.
“So, what are you going to do?” Bethany has witnessed the ups and downs of Alice and Henry’s rocky marriage for years.
“I give up. I’m tired of trying, Beth.” They round the corner as Alice signals her horse to break into a full gallop, leaving Bethany in her dust.
Oh, the wind through her hair and the sun on the horizon just makes Alice want to keep going. She pictures herself not stopping until she reaches a town where no one has a clue who she is and what she is running from.
But, thoughts of Alice’s two young children tug on her heart. She slows her Stallion down knowing she could never really leave her life. It would be a deeper regret than actually staying.
“Ughhh!!!! I feel stuck, Beth! Henry will never change. He doesn’t even know how to care about the kids and me. It’s always been about him and his needs. When’s it ever going to be my turn to be happy?” Vapors of heat escape as her words hit the brisk autumn air.
Alice’s life was moving faster than she imagined it would have. She couldn’t help but wonder if happiness was just an illusion that was reserved for television commercials and young teenagers.
2 Corinthians 5:17 is encouragement to those who have trusted Christ as their Savior. The beauty of Christ’s death on the cross was not only the eternal blessings of salvation, but also a wonderful bonus for the life we have here on earth.
When we accept Christ as our personal Savior, His spirit comes to live within us. In 2 Corinthians 5:17 we are promised that we are no longer the same person anymore. We literally have the power of God dwelling on the inside of us. His presence is there to help change our nature to becoming more like Christ’s.
But, these changes won’t happen immediately or automatically; God has no intention of ever taking away the free will of man. Daily, we must choose to submit to the Holy Spirit within. When we do this, we are then able to make choices based on the will of God, not our own.
God wants all of His creation to live a blessed existence. But, it is up to us to embrace the new creature we are through Christ if we are really to live in this kind of victory.
Happiness is a choice and it is within you. Change will happen only if you allow God to change you. If you want the people in your life to change for the better, let God change YOU for the better and maybe they will be inspired by your personal restoration.
“Dear Heavenly Father,
I have accepted Jesus into my heart, but regretfully, I have stifled His voice. I know this because I don’t have victory over many areas of my life, and I know that the wisdom of God is within me.
Lord, I believe I have not been acting wisely because I have been ignoring your promptings. What have you been telling my heart that I have been ignoring? Can you please repeat what you have been saying to me? This time I will have a heart that is tender to listen, and ready to obey.
I refuse to live a mediocre life. I want every good thing that Jesus died to give me.
Jesus had the power to raise Himself from the grave, and I believe He has the power to take my dead life and make it amazing. In His name, for His glory, Amen.”
