“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Prov.4:23
Today’s Christian Daily Devotional
Anyone who has ever experienced the “high” of being in love can easily recall the passion of that new love taking over the heart. Over time, many long-standing couples recall those memories and moments of the days when they were “falling in love” like priceless little treasures.
Any realistic person will agree that the feeling of “new” is a phenomenon that can never be experienced again. But despite the fact that we can never re-capture or re-create that feeling of “newness” again, we can make a choice to look at the familiar in an unfamiliar way. By taking this purposeful action, you are maintaining the fires that will keep the passions of that relationship new and fresh.
The Lord instructs us in Prov. 4:23 that if we become lazy in the matters of our hearts (and the passions it carries) we are taking the fire out of our own lives. What is important to you? Have you lost passion for the things that used to be your driving source? How long has it been since you have stoked the fire and kept your passions lit? Let’s pray over our hearts to keep what is most important a top priority and not get lazy in our efforts to maintain them.
“Dear Heavenly Father,
I give you my heart again. I want to fall in passionate love with you again. This will keep my heart from being sidetracked. The temptation to flirt with the world is so strong. You are my first love. You are the one who loved me when no one else did, the one who answered when no one else would. How could I break your heart by letting my desires and my passion for you die down? I pray over my diligence. I want to keep and guard my precious heart from the corruption and distractions of anything that will be a divider between you and I. Show me the love of my salvation. Ignite my heart to be on fire for you. Let the flame burn with an everlasting fervor so that I can pass it on to others who are close enough to feel it whenever I am in their presence. I pray that the source of that fire is the flame of Jesus Christ Himself. In the name of Yeshua, I pray for the fire of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit to be upon me and all who know me, Amen.”
