“Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us; that the world my believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one; I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast love them, as thou hast loved me.” John 17: 20-23
Today’s Christian Daily Devotional
This message of unity for believers is so clear. God is depending on how we treat others as a testimony to His goodness. God is entrusting HIS reputation with us. What an honor, and what a responsibility! Are you measuring up? Picture yourself at a party filled with many diverse personalities. The chances of everyone in that room agreeing on every issue in life is slim to none! But, that does not give us good reason not to chose to handle ourselves with the kind of steady composure and the respect that we would like given to us. If God says that it is crucial for us—that it is the very ingredient necessary for our lives to be a witness to a world that wants proof there is a God, this is just NOT an option. We need to stop making excuses (even if they are good ones) and just OBEY. Sometimes suffering is not as dramatic as we might like to think it is. Sometimes it is as simple as “sucking it up”.
“Dear Heavenly Father,
There is a lot that you suffered for me to have the chance at eternal life. Thank you for your suffering. Help me to keep this in mind when I am struggling with getting along with other believers. I know you made the world such a diverse place, it would be impossible to agree with all on everything. But, I know that this is not what you are asking me to do. You are asking me to be an example of peace. I want what you want. Please help me to be all that you have called me to be. Show me when to shut my mouth, and when to speak. Give me the words and the right attitude to display that will be in line with the way you want to be represented, as I am an ambassador for Christ. In Jesus’ precious name, to lead more people into the light of your Kingdom, Amen.”
