“Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed; but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded. The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.” Prov. 13:13-14
Today’s Christian Daily Devotional
Many people shun from the Bible like it is a math book. For some reason, our natural tendency for rebellion encourages us to cling to the notion that the things we get “away” with are always more fun. The Bible is never associated with a good time. It has been wrongly marketed as a book of rules and a list of demands.
If we continue to subscribe to this contorted thinking, we are in essence, damning ourselves.
Imagine a government with no laws. Imagine a nation run by people who ENJOY breaking moral codes of ethics. Imagine a society built on “whatever” feels good for that instant.
When we take God’s word and the wisdom contained in it, and run from the lifestyles that it recommends, we are in anarchy with ourselves.
The only one who wins in that situation is: the one who wishes to destroy you. Hell can start on earth if we choose to defile God’s ways…and it will not end there either, it will extend until eternity.
The Bible is a guidebook for a good life; a healthy and a happy one. It is not a rulebook, but a love story. God loved us so much He took the time and went through the trouble to give us a standard of living that would bring excellence in our life on earth. Many have a hard time seeing the Bible that way because they have bought the greatest marketing campagin that satan has implemented here on earth: Good is boring and crashing and burning is more exciting than that.
Take a moment to soak that in. Have you bought that lie? Now take a good hard look at your life. Has crashing and burning really been that great? Are you ready for something better?
“Dear Heavenly Father,
I have come to the end of myself. I cannot go any deeper or lower than I am right now. There is nowhere to go but up. My life is an exact reflection of the painful results of living however I want to. I repent. I am done running from the wisdom of your word. Today I commit to really searching the word of God for a better way to live. I give up my rebellious attitude. I admit that I do not know it all and there is a lot for me to learn. What greater teacher to have than God Himself? Will you teach me your ways, Lord? I will no longer look at your word as if it is something to rebel against, but I will see it as a tool for the best life I could ever have—a God blessed life. In Jesus’ precious name, thank you for your patience and grace. I receive all the forgiveness you can give this broken life. Amen.”
