“It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.” Lamentations 3:26 Today’s Christian daily devotional
“Will you pray that I find a good job?” Hailey’s thin shoulders hunch over as she flicks her hacky sack from toe to toe.
“Okay. So, what kind of job are you hoping God will provide for you?” I stop the ball with my foot.
“I don’t know.” She shrugs. “Isn’t it God’s will for me to just leave it up to Him?” Hailey shields her eyes from the sun, looking intently into mine. It is as if she had never considered that God would be interested in her desires.
“Well, how can God get the credit if you don’t pray specific?” I see the wheels of her young mind spinning.
In this day and age, hope is one of the many attributes that people just don’t seem to have the patience for. It is frightening to be vulnerable to the chance of another let down. Most people prefer their risks to come with a nice cushy money-back guarantee.
Lamentations 3:26 indicates that it is good for a person to hope quietly and to wait for their salvation from God. But, that doesn’t mean we leave everything up to Him. For any relationship to work, it takes two to tango. God desires to be a partner with you in your life. How can one know if their prayers are being answered if they don’t even know what answers they’re actually looking out for?
As you get to know God, one begins to understand the nature of His will. Then, it is possible to pray to the best of your ability in alignment with what you know.
Whatever circumstances life has thrown your way, choose to believe God will provide not only a way through it but also an opportunity to let His presence be known. He isn’t some ominous presence somewhere in the heavens; He is a hands-on God that cares about the little things…especially His little children!
“Dear Heavenly Father,
I admit that I am frightened. I am afraid to trust in you completely, Lord. I know this isn’t right, and I want to learn to trust in you and wait for your solutions to my everyday issues.
Lord, I do not want to insult you or get in the way of your plans for me. Give me an inspiration to desire your will, so that when I pray, I can pray with bold confidence knowing that my heart is in alignment with yours.
Light my heart with the hope of my future, and give me peace and security in every place that I am lacking. Thank you for believing in me and help me to see the best in myself. I will put my hope in YOU. Amen.”
