“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness unto him; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known he mind of the Lord, that He may instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.” 1 Cor. 2:14-16
Today’s daily devotional
“Yes, yes…YES!” My husband fist pumps the air with uninhibited excitement. Of course– I feel the need to peek over the counter and see what ignited this kind of spontaneous insanity. If John is fist-pumping, something pretty amazing is happening. It is a rare occurrence in our household.
Apparently George St. Pierre must have done something awesome. My face is glued to the television screen as I watch the crowd roar with as much enthusiasm as John. The fight is over and George joins hands with his bloodied and defeated opponent.
Because my husband loves to watch a good grapple, I have put in the effort and tried to enjoy this sport that seems to have taken over America. But, try as I may, I remain unimpressed. Seeing two men trash talk each other for a full hour before the fight, then watching them duke it out and hug each other in the end is beyond my comprehension. I have accepted the fact that this will remain a mystery to me.
When I asked Jesus into my heart, many of my friends stopped talking to me. I believe it is because I was losing interest in the things that we had in common in the past. I was being drawn into different things. I was hungry to find out the mind of God and searching out the heart of Christ, and that alone will separate you from a world that has little interest in spiritual convictions.
There is a place where you can get to know God quite well. Although you may never fully understand or comprehend Him; you can learn more about him and when you do your love will grow stronger over time.
How does one get to know God? By opening up the Bible. Reading this book has changed my life for the better. As I built my relationship with the Lord, all of my other relationships improved as well. Are you ready for some improvement? Get with God. He is pretty good in that department.
“Dear Heavenly Father,
There is so much that I don’t understand in this life. Sometimes I find your word intimidating. I am asking that you lead me to a good version of your word that I can understand. Help me to investigate your mind, so I can have a mind like you, God. The only way I can have this is if I discipline myself to continually reading your word, believing your word and claiming all the promises you have for me in it.
Help me to not only learn about you, but to draw closer to you as well. I want to develop that intimate relationship that will keep me in your presence and under your protection.
In Jesus’ precious name, I am asking for the mind of Christ, I receive it and I agree to discipline myself to read your word everyday. Amen.”
