“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” Jer. 29:13
Today’s Christian daily devotional
“Another minister of God has a fall from grace.” I turn up the T.V. monitor and lean closer into it, clutching the sides of my elliptical machine.
I am at my local gym and it is apparent by the snickers and whispers around me that I am not the only one interested in what the latest buzz in the news is all about.
“I always knew that church stuff was just a scam.” The woman on the treadmill next to me says to her friend while rolling her eyes.
“Yeah. I stopped going to mine a long time ago. All the people there were just a bunch of hypocrites. The church only cares about your money or your pubescent son; they could care less about your soul.” Her friend huffs loudly as she ramps up the speed and breaks into a jog.
After hearing their exchange, I turn off the monitor; hop off the machine and head toward the bathroom, my heart heavy with disgust.
How can God be defended when the evidence pilled against him has been a collection built by flawed humans? Since when did God’s existence become dependent on man’s reputation? It just isn’t right or fair, but it is typical.
In Jeremiah 29:13 we are told that if we really are earnest in our search for God, we will find him because it will take a heart that is not easily discouraged or defeated to discern the true God.
For those who have given up on God and dropped their faith because of flawed church leadership, I challenge you to dig your heels in deeper and continue searching for GOD (not a church leader) with all your heart. God himself promises you will find him. The good news is you don’t even have to go to church to discover Him. Simply open up that dusty Bible you have sitting on your shelf. It won’t be long before you realize that God is much better than the world is giving him credit for.
“Dear Heavenly Father,
I am sorry that the world has a hard time distinguishing the difference between the creation and The Creator.
Lord, bless the ones who have fallen away from their first love because of the fallen nature of man.
Bless the leaders who have not taken care of their flock properly to get right with you or get out the ministry.
Send good leadership that has a heart that desires to serve you, and thinks of God first, his flock second and himself last.
Lord, church leadership is a heavy responsibility. Arm your men and woman of God with a sober attitude and vigilant character as satan is seeking to destroy the reputation of God. The easiest way he can do this is by tearing down the church itself. In Jesus’ precious name, I pray for every lost person to seek you with his or her whole heart. Amen.”
