“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” Is. 43:18-19
Today’s Christian Daily Devotional
What a beautiful scripture to ponder on! For a long time, I have looked at my past with such sorrow and regret. How many days did I waste being selfish and angry? How many memories did I miss because of my attitude? I know I was not the best big sister for my younger siblings, and this is a regret I have carried with me since I gave my life to Christ. But, I can almost feel Christ Himself whispering lovingly in my ear, to not stumble on something from my past. My siblings have forgiven me, He has forgiven me, now I must forgive me. For some reason, this has been a struggle. But, the Lord is instructing all of us, who have given our lives to Him, to embrace that new life and new beginning by forgetting our former life and the things we did, because He is creating a new creature. He is breathing new life into situations that seem hopeless. Want to join me in a prayer for forgiveness of your greatest “former” enemy? Yourself?
“Dear Heavenly Father,
You are so good! You really are amazing. I want to lift your name and thank you for all that you have saved me from. I know what kind of person I was, and where I was going with that. But, you forgave me. You have taken what was broken, and breathed new air into the lungs of a woman who was almost dead—and you revived me! Lord, not only did you resurrect what was dead, you re-created something new to replace it! I feel different, I am different…yet, I am continuing to focus on (and beat myself up over) my choices from the past. I see others judge me by my mistakes, but you don’t. Thank you for not being like them (or myself for that matter!) Help me to forgive myself for my past. Help me to forget where I came from just enough to let me heal; but not to where I cannot reach out and help heal others with the same problems. In Jesus’ precious name, I accept your forgiveness and I am making a choice today to forgive myself, Amen.”
