“If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask Him?” Matt. 7:11
Today’s Christian daily devotional
“It is time for lunch!” My mother’s voice beckoned from the kitchen downstairs and pulled me out of my dreamy nap. I rub my sleepy eyes and head toward the mouthwatering scent of steaming hot dogs.
Ever so carefully, I venture down the steep stairs. My chubby fingers are gripping the rail tightly. Before I reach the bottom I hear an unfamiliar giggle. I peek between the rails and feel my heart skip a beat.
A sea of faces donned in party hats looks excitedly back at me. “Happy Birthday, Julia!” They all boom at once. In a moment, party streamers, laughter and chaos errupts. My father sweeps me off my feet into the middle of all my childhood friends.
A bedazzled crown is placed upon my head and in that moment I felt like the most important person in the universe. My dreams of becoming a princess came true the moment I woke up from that unassuming nap. It was good to be a girl, but it was better to be a princess!
When a believer asks Christ (the Son of God) into their heart, they are automatically adopted into God’s family. We receive the inheritance that Christ died to give us—all that He has, we have. Christ went through a lot of trouble for us to enjoy the benefits of being the children of the King of Kings.
Some Believers have a hard time grasping the concept of how generous and good God is because they have never seen a human example of it. Let me encourage you to take God out of the same box that you have for humanity.
He is the Almighty creator of the Universe that beckons us to trust in Him and His good nature. We cannot receive the good things He has for us, if we don’t ask for, accept, and feel worthy of the gifts He desires to share with His children. Are you ready to be treated like the royalty? God is ready when you are.
“Dear Heavenly Father,
I look at creation and I know you are good. I see beauty and balance in nature that is so evident of a God that loves to provide everything. From the air that we breathe, to the workings of our lungs to be able to receive it, just shows the perfect symphony of life.
Lord, forgive me for not trusting you. I know that I have held back in so many ways thinking for some reason if I did not take care of myself, no one else would do it for me. But, you don’t want me to be so independent. You desire me to turn to you, ask for good things and trust that you are a good Father that will provide it all.
Take away the fear I have of giving up control. Take away the fear I have that you might disappoint me. Help me to see that when my prayers are not answered in the way I expect, it does not mean that they are unanswered.
Today, I am taking you out of the tiny box I have placed you in. You are the Lord of my life, you are the creator of the universe and you can handle any issue that I have because you are GOD. In Jesus’ name, thank you for your Son, Jesus, who died to share His inheritance with me, Amen.”
