“Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the Lord and their works are in the dark, and thy say, Who seeth us? And who knoweth us?” Isaiah 29:15
Today’s Christian daily devotional
Ron taps nervously on the dashboard of his car, checking his watch once again. As soon he sees a pair of headlights beaming brightly into the vacant lot; he loosens his tie in relief.
Hearing the muffled sound of a car door slamming, Ron can’t believe his blood is racing as fast as it is.
Holly taps on the window and smiles, her breath lingers faintly on the icy glass. He unlocks the passenger side and Holly crawls into the leather seat beside him.
“So, how are you?” Ron weakly attempts small talk.
“Oh, my bio exam was beyond ridiculous. I think I might have to take it again next semester.” She rolls her big blue eyes and shrugs her shoulders as if it didn’t matter much to her.
Virginia would never do that! She worries about everything. Ron huffs justifiably to himself, taking mental note of another flaw.
Everything about Holly made Ron feel alive again. She was gorgeous, young, carefree and affectionate. She always gave way more than she asked of him.
Holly was Ron’s little respite from a world that was rife with constant stress and disappointment.
This little fling was only supposed to be a one-time thing. But after that one amazing encounter Ron couldn’t stop himself from coming back for more.
It didn’t help that Holly’s carefree nature make it that much easier for him. Her schedule was flexible and she had no issue with the fact that he was a married man with three young children. Holly was out to have fun and the cost really didn’t matter—as long as it didn’t cost her anything.
Ron inches closer to her; the heat of her warm body drew him in like a magnet. Sweat stippled at his brow. He closed his eyes and leaned in for a kiss…but the faces of his little boys flash on his eyelids.
Startled, he opened his eyes and recoiled back into his seat. His lips were closed and silent.
“What? Why’d you stop, Ronnie?” Holly pulls at his tie playfully, as if she’s reeling in her catch of the day.
But, something bigger than his desire plunges deeply into Ron’s aching heart.
Isaiah 29:15 warns very strongly against the arrogant person who sins with defiantly. One who is comfortable doing this, thinking that God doesn’t see or take note of it is more than a fool.
Heed the warning of Isaiah 29:15. Don’t take a chance and gamble all that you have thinking that you will ever win. When you defy God, you never do.
“Dear Heavenly Father,
Everyday it feels as if I am assaulted with unbelievable temptations. I repent for every time that I have succumbed to my own lusts instead of looking to you for strength to get through them.
Lord, give me a heart that is sensitive to your warnings. Give me your eyes to see the damage that can happen if I don’t follow your wisdom.
I want to avoid all the pain and strife that I can.
I know if I want to enjoy the blessings in life, I must choose to live your way.
Today, I am rededicating myself to you. I ask that you bring to my remembrance all the sins that I have defiantly committed against you and against any others.
Give me the courage to ask for forgiveness from those that you lead me to, help me to claim responsibility for the mistakes that I have made.
As you are washing me clean with the blood of your Son, empower me with that same resurrection power that raised Jesus from the dead.
Resurrect my life and make it beautiful, abundant and fruitful–just like you’ve always wanted it to be. Amen.”
