“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation. But be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
Today’s Christian daily devotional
Just flipping on the television or picking up a newspaper is enough to cause any rational person at least a wee bit of concern. Unless you live under a rock, it is pretty obvious that there isn’t a whole lot of peace going on. Any place you look– from the bullies in privileged neighborhoods, to the unstable job market, to the current events going on any country of your choice in the Middle East.
It would be nice to say that I walk in total shalom all day. But quite honestly, the only time I have true peace is when I remind myself that despite the realities of this topsy-turvy world, there is also another reality that is just beyond our physical sight. This realm is the spiritual world. It is the place where your heart, spirit and soul dwells.
In John 16:33, Jesus spoke some pretty encouraging words for those who might be tempted to loose hope in a world that has little to begin with.
Believers in Christ have the supernatural confidence that even if their very life is taken, they will not suffer an uncertain future. There is an eternity that is far greater than any of the baubles this world could provide.
I challenge you to ask anyone who knows Jesus how they feel about death itself.
If you haven’t asked Jesus into your heart, and you are lacking peace and eternal confidence, I challenge you to ask YOURSELF a question: What is stopping you from really looking into the only One who promised the kind of peace that passes all understanding?
One thing you can be certain of— no one knows when his or her last day of on earth is. Are you ready to step into eternity? Being prepared may be simpler than you think.
“Dear Heavenly Father,
I cannot imagine what it would feel like not to be fearful or uncertain on where my soul will go when I pass into eternity.
I can’t put this decision off forever. Ignorance cannot be my excuse, especially when so many people have mentioned Jesus’ name throughout my lifetime.
I am not willing to gamble with my eternal future anymore.
I know that I am a sinner. I haven’t been able to figure out a way to get to heaven on my own.
It says in your word that all I need to do is believe that Jesus was the Son of God; that His sinless life, sacrificial death and His supernatural resurrection were enough to pay for my sins. His blood that was shed for me washes me clean. I accept and receive this free gift.
It says in the Word that He died and was resurrected again three days later. This truth will give me the hope that God can resurrect my life of dead choices. I choose Jesus to be my savior.
Lord, baptize me in the Holy Spirit so I can have the power that I need to turn away from the influences that will stifle my growth in Christ. Help me to love your word and read it everyday so I can have the wisdom and assurance and relationship that are so important for my spiritual development.
In Jesus’ name, thank you for the peace that passes all understanding, Amen.”
