“Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; Not with eye service, as man-pleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men; Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.” Eph. 6: 5-8
Today’s Christian Daily Devotional
When I was younger, I had a boss that was not very nice. He liked to show everyone he was the “big man” by making everyone around him feel “little”. I did my job, because I looked forward to getting my paycheck; but I did it with a heart of defiance and rebellion. Because I was a “good little actress”, he was none the wiser and actually rewarded his most “hate-filled” (but, smiling) employee with an “Employee of the Month” reward.
When I look back on all the hours I spent in anger, stewing in my heart, sweeping the floor, filing his papers, imagining inflicting pain on him, mopping his floors, complaining about everything, plotting revenge, I realize I was the one who actually suffered! I was the one who had the bitter memories to reflect on, I was the one with the anger problem, and I was the one with the attitude that could pop a baseball out of the park—with just a look!)
The wisdom of Eph 6:5-8 is for YOUR benefit, not your mean boss’s! I wonder how many less wrinkles I would have if I would have chosen God’s way of dealing with “Mr. Meanie”…
“Dear Heavenly Father,
You are so right, and I have been SO WRONG, for SO LONG, that it took a lot for me to finally “get” it. I got it. I want to be the kind of person who has a good attitude no matter where I am in life, because life is not perfect. I do not want to waste mine with a bad attitude, if I can chose to have a better one. This will be good for developing my character, for helping me to have a strong testimony and for reducing the stress from my life. I know you are a good God and you can make the best out of any bad situation, but you cannot do it, if I do not have an attitude that you do not agree with. Next time, I am going with Eph 6:5-8. Please keep this verse fresh on my heart, so I can make a new start. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.”
