“The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing; but the soul of diligent shall be made fat.” Prov. 13:4
Today’s Daily Devotional
I know a man has never been happy no matter where he is at in his life. Although he has inherited a half a million dollars, he squandered it away in less than four years. At his last five places of employment, he has sued each employer. If you ever have the misfortune of meeting this man; within five minutes of your initial greeting, you will learn of every ailment in his body, every financial problem he is up against and how the world just seems to be “out to get him”. It is a sad sight to see. The truth of the matter is, he is a lazy man that has one goal in mind: to do as little as possible and to manipulate every situation, person and emotion to his advantage. There has been a trial of broken hearts, unpaid loans and empty promises that follow him everywhere he goes. You can feel this burden by just sitting in his presence. Diligence is not in his vocabulary because it takes longer than a week to develop. Do you want to be successful? Prov. 13:4 says that the soul of the diligent shall be made fat. This means that a person who is consistent and hard working will have complete satisfaction and rest. We see this reflected in the lives of many successful people (who were not born into success). Hard work and determination do not guarantee a good life, but by engaging in them, you can increase your opportunity for it.
“Dear Heavenly Father,
I admit I have become discouraged and disgruntled. This has been reflected in my lazy attitude. I know that by thinking and acting this way, I am actually ruining any chance for my personal fulfillment. I need your help. Please give me the kind of determination to keep working hard and doing my best where I am at today. I know this kind of attitude will help me to enjoy my job more, my life more and also attract positive people and circumstances. In Jesus’ precious name forgive me Lord for being lazy and blaming you for my situations, Amen.”
