“Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise; redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but of understanding that the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit.” Eph. 5:14-18
Today’s Christian Daily Devotional
What a wake-up call for believers! I can remember trying to be a “good person” by gracing God with my un-interested attendance to church on Sundays. After doing my “religious duty” for the week, when Monday morning would roll back around my “normal life” would resume—unchanged and unaffected by the words of inspiration I had heard just a day before. For a long time, I wondered about this “power of God” that many people talked about. I never felt it! This is because we have a responsibility to take the wisdom and the knowledge that we learn from reading (or hearing) God’s word and actually DO SOMETHING with it. Here is an example that comes to my mind: I know a man that has expressed interest in becoming more physically fit. He subscribes to various fitness magazines, has built a full gym in his basement and asks my husband to share his favorite diet and workout tips every time we see him. But, despite all the bells and whistles that he has at his disposal, this man’s body is not in shape. Sadly, it is a mirror reflection of the actual effort he has put into taking his knowledge and his equipment and actually applying them to his lifestyle. Many Believers are the same way. The world is evil and our lives are short. Let the Power of God’s word actually affect the choices that you make so you can stand out and be something amazing. The world does not need another Believer that is filled with hot air and no life-force! Let’s get “heavenly”!
“Dear Heavenly Father,
I was the walking dead before I knew exactly what Christ had done for the world. Now that I have an understanding, I also have a responsibility. I do not take that lightly. Lord, I want to be wise in the stewardship of my life. Help me to be an investor of things that really matter and help me to really make a difference. It is so easy to get sidetracked into pleasing myself, because this is comes so naturally for me! Please reverse the order of my mind. Help me to put the things that you find crucial as a top priority in my life, and allow the things that don’t really matter (in the scope of eternity) on the back burner. This will help me not to waste any more of the life that you have entrusted me with. I want to leave a mark and make an impact on the lives around me. I cannot do this if I make excuses and do not follow the Word of God. Help me to obey your will and your word so I can be trusted with your power. I am asking that you fill me to the brim with the presence of your Holy Spirit. I want to be drunk on YOU, Lord. I have been a fool for (way lesser) things in the past. In Jesus’ precious name, and only by your grace can I do this, Amen.”
