“He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much; and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.” Luke 16:10
Today’s Christian daily devotional
“Three, two and… one. Take a short break and then you got your last set.” John adds some weight to the Smith machine.
“What’s up with that?” I raise my eyebrow in mild concern, noticing that he only added twenty pounds to my squat. “You’re not ready for more weight yet; maybe next week.” John pats the side of the machine to refocus my frustration.
I must admit, as much as I love him, I’m kind of hating John at this moment. Having a personal trainer for a husband can’t be the best thing for a marriage.
As motivated as I am to reach my fitness goals, John’s wisdom (once again!) reeled me back into reality.
John encourages me to be smart, not to get ahead of myself and to perform only what my body is capable of accomplishing. I’m positive that his keen foresight has preserved me. My confidence is usually stronger than my actual abilities. I’m sure that John has prevented many painful injuries. Experiencing these would have only set me back and driven me further from my goals.
Luke 16:10 reminds us that much like any well-intentioned responsible trainer, God always desires what is best and healthiest for His children. He is capable of seeing the bigger picture. You can bet that God takes that vantage point into full consideration. Unfortunately, many of us are busy focusing only on what is currently in front of us.
God knows you have aspirations; He never intended to withhold any good thing from you. But, those good things may have to be set aside until you are responsible enough to actually handle them.
In the meantime it is crucial to continue doing all the little things you can do NOW. This will prepare you for the BIGGER blessings that are just around the corner.
“Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for all that you have given to me. Everything good comes from you. Everything that isn’t good in my life, I’m going to take responsibility for my partnership in it. For the painful things in my life that I have no explanation for, I refuse to blame you for it.
Please give me a mind that is faithful in all that you have given me stewardship over. I ask that you bless me with the ability to do all I can with all the resources I have given. Show me needs that I can meet that I haven’t seen before. Give me a passion to give my time, money or effort in any way that you see fit. Show me how to be a doer and a blessing to others.
When my heart is in pure service to you, promote me to the level that you want and allow me to be satisfied until I am ready to move to the next level. Help me to be faithful in the little things so you can feel confident in blessing me with bigger blessings and the challenges that come with them.
In Jesus name, for your glory, until you take me home, Amen!”
