“To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Lord my god, I will give thanks unto thee forever.” Psalms 30:12
Today’s Christian daily devotional
“Hey Babe, thanks for making my favorite BBQ chicken; it really hit the spot.” John smiles in a way that melts my heart like the icing on a warm Cinnabon.
I patter back into the kitchen with a stack full of dirty dishes; freshly inspired. How could I not be with a reaction like that? My mind shifts into overdrive as I start concocting another meal—one that I know John will love even more! The challenge is on and we are both winners for it.
I’m sure that many of my girlfriends (especially the ones who loathe cooking) are rolling their eyes as they read these words.
But, the fact of the matter is—I have no problem that a grateful heart and kind words inspires me to do acts of love and sacrifice. It is never an issue to serve the ones who have captured my heart.
I see the truth of Psalms 30:12 play out in my everyday life all the time. The more appreciative my husband is for the things I do for him, the more it inspires me to give more and do all that I possibly can.
Since we’re all made in the image of God, let’s assume that God’s reaction to a thankful heart must be pretty similar. (Taken to that ‘God level’, of course!)
If you feel like your life is lacking in blessings, let me encourage you to take a sober inventory of your life. Start looking for the blessings you already have. Begin thanking God for the opportunities, things, and the people that are in your life today.
As your heart begins to fill with gratefulness, you will be blessed simply by recognizing what you already have. This will also move you into a position where God can trust you with even bigger blessings.
Don’t you think it’s about time for God to hear something good for once?
“Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for all that you have given me. I’m so sorry that I seem to take much of our prayer time requesting more or complaining for less. Sadly, I often forget to just stop and just thank you for all you have already blessed me with.
This bad habit ends today. There is always time to give credit where credit is due…and it has been long due in my prayer life with you.
I want to thank you for the life in my lungs, for the food on my table, for the family and friends who love me, and most of all for you loving me despite how self-centered I can be at times.
Thank you for your patience with me. Shower me with a revelation of just how good I really have it. Help me to see it everyday from this day forward.
Let me remember never to come to you in prayer without first offering a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving from the depths of a grateful heart. In Jesus’ precious name, thank you! Amen.”
