“For I know the thoughts I think towards you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Jer. 29:11
Today’s Christian Daily Devotional
“Don’t expect a lot and you will not be disappointed.” This mantra is a dose of common wisdom that I have been told many times by many different people throughout my life. Time and time again, I have desperately tried to implement this idea into my daily life.
But, no matter how many times I have heard it, and no matter how many friends and family have broken my heart; I cannot seem to live with lower expectations.
Something deep within me yearns for more. I know there has to be more and better for me and the other ones who are searching and holding out for it. When I read Jer. 29:11, my heart leaps in expectation of what God has planned for each of us who claim to be His.
Amidst all the disappointments life brings with it, doesn’t it give you peace to know that through it all, God has GOOD plans for us? Don’t lower your expectations. Raise your eyes, expand your hope and expect God to fill the parts and places that everyone else has left lacking.
“Dear Heavenly Father,
Oh, my eyes have been looking to the wrong places for blessings. My vision has become limited to my past experiences, and sadly, most of my vision has been limited because I have been focusing on my past disappointments. Show me the times that you pulled me through the storms and I did not recognize or give you credit for it. I know this is important for me to see, as it will build my faith and trust in you and your good intentions. Lord, forgive me for not trusting that you are a good God with good plans for me. Forgive me for blaming you for the trouble that I have brought upon myself. Forgive me for blaming you for the difficulties in life that I cannot understand, as you see with the long view lens. I am only focusing on my point of view. Widen my vision to include the larger scope of things, and draw my heart to never limiting you or your goodness again. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.”
