“But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And the base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not to bring to nought things that are. That no flesh should glory in His presence.” I Cor. 1:27-29
Today’s Christian daily devotional
I sigh disappointedly as my husband hands me a pair of 3D glasses. We search our tickets to find our theater number in the large movie-plex.
I was not a happy camper and that was difficult to hide. When my better half planned this special night out, I imagined a live theater show. An extra-long action film was not my idea of a romantic night—3D or not!
As we settle into our seats, the room darkens and the screen glows alive. The speakers loudly announce the coming attractions. I glance at the movie screen. My eyes dart as I quickly look back again. Nothing made visual sense.
Apparently, the advertisers had cleverly hopped on the 3D bandwagon. I followed the crowd and placed my overpriced plastic peepers on. Instantly, the movie theater took me into another world.
This brings me to the wisdom of 1 Cor. 1:27-29. When we look around our world, sometimes it can feel like things are not making sense. This is because we have a choice. God allowed us the option of seeing things with or without spiritual insight.
To see things clearly, it is crucial we take advantage of all the options He gives. It is impossible to get the whole picture if we do not.
God created life to be a spiritual experience not just a physical existence. But, the depth of our encounters lies with us. Will we take the sight that God has offered and look at the world the way He sees it?
In 1 Cor. 1:27-29 God promises that he will use the weak and the foolish things of the world to confound the wise and strong.
Look at yourself. Do you consider yourself weak and foolish? If so, God has blessed you with the humility to be a wonderful vessel of blessing to the “wise” and “strong” of the world.
If you have been feeling down about yourself, go put on your spiritual glasses. In God’s eyes, your humble position is the best place you can be because it is the only place He can use you. All you have to do now is ask to be used!
“Dear Heavenly Father,
I get it now. I have been seeing with a limited vision. I forget that there is another dimension that I cannot see with my physical eye. I forget that you see and value things very differently from the rest of the world.
Today I am asking for you to give me your spiritual vision. I want to see myself from your viewpoint.
I know that this will help me to stay positive and focused on the things that really matter and will help me to drop the things that you have no interest in me being involved in.
In Jesus’ precious name, thank you for the blessing of seeing things your way and for making me one of the weak and foolish things of the world. I knew you had a good reason, Amen.”
