“For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I eek to please men? For if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.” Galatians 1: 10-11

“I want my hair to look just like Barbie’s!” Cassidy tapped her mother with the plastic hand of her favorite doll.
“Oh honey. We can’t do that with your hair. The judges need to see that pretty little face of yours.” Renee brushed off the request, pulling up the sides of little Cassidy’s long tendrils.
Cassidy dropped Barbie down to her side, allowing her mother to do what she was going to do. Protesting wasn’t going to make much a difference. It never did.
“Now, pretend that I’m a judge and give me your winner’s smile, sweetie.” Renee flashed a toothy grin, modeling what she hoped her daughter would mimic.
Cassidy flashed a smile right back, on perfect cue; only the luster was missing.
“Honey, that’s not the way we practiced it.” Renee combed through her daughter’s golden locks a little more roughly.
“But, momma, the judges never like me. I never win. I’m tired of this.” Little Cassidy winced from the harsh combing.
“You will win one day, honey. We just have to keep trying.” Renee reached in her purse, pulling out a miniature box of lemon drops—Cassidy’s favorite.
Instantly, her frown was gone. But, the habits that Renee had taught her beautiful little daughter didn’t fade as quickly.
In Galatians 1:10-11 we are encouraged to be God pleasers, not man pleasers. In fact, if we fashion ourselves according to the whims of men this will only lead to a life filled with entrapment. This is because not every person has our best interest in mind. We know that humans can never be satisfied—at least not without God.
In contrast, if we are motivated to please God alone we will be ensured that our value will never be diminished. We can also trust that God would never lead us down a path of destruction.
God’s ideas for you are much better than what any other man or woman can come up with. If you want more, shoot higher. Shoot to make God happy. It will be an investment that will only bring you to your highest destiny. You will become a guaranteed winner in God’s eyes.
“Dear Heavenly Father,
I have searched for the approval of other’s. Doing this hasn’t taken me any higher. It has only fed my insecurities and created an anxiety in my heart that I will never be enough.
The bottom line is: If I seek the approval of men I will always come up short. But, if I seek to make you happy, you will take my best efforts and bless them. You will add the blessings that I could never give myself.
I am so ready to be blessed. I am so tired of my stress. Take it from me, Lord. I have been carrying the burden of needing the approval of others for so long.
It is time to see how far I can fly. Be the wind beneath my wings and take me to places man could never take me. I trust you. Amen.”
