“He that covers his sins shall not prosper; but whoevver confesses and forsakes them shall have mercy.” Proverbs 28:13

What I like about this verse is the transparency! It is a simple fact of life that we are naturally drawn to and want to deal with people we can trust. Sometimes trust is built by tearing down our own reputation. It takes a very humble heart to admit they have a weakness, and to be honest about a personal shortcoming. When (and if) a person does this, they take a huge risk of how you will percieve them. You can choose to forgive and move on, or you can chose to walk away from them. But either way, the after-effects will draw that person closer to the truth of WHO they are; and in this moment that person can begin dealing honestly with God. Only then, do they tap into the power of God to change their heart. “Dear Heavenly Father, My list of issues is so long, but I realize that it must be dealt with. Just like a heaping tower of laundry staring me down, it cannot wait another day. So, I take this moment and STOP. Lord, there have been so many choices in my life that have brought me to the place I am today. Not all of them were bad, but many of them could have used the wisdom of your consultation. I don’t want to hide from my past, my justifications, or my behavior. I want to come clean. Help me, as this feels like such an overwhelming process. Take me down the path of my memories to find the root of the problems I am dealing with today. Cover my heart as this will be painful, and my first reaction might be to turn around. Help me to press forward, knowing that there is good in confessing and forsaking these things. In Jesus’ precious name, help me to be brave as I draw closer to you, Amen.”
