“The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.” Prov. 12:27
Today’s Christian Daily Devotional
This verse makes me think of my mother. I can picture her collecting the bones left over from our turkey dinner for her fabulous soup. She would save the skin for her two dogs and not waste a single morsel that could be transformed into something tasty once again. She recycled before it was “cool”. My mother always said it was because she appreciated God’s blessings to her and she wanted to honor Him by taking care of the earth. Her diligence and appreciation is such a beautiful quality that comes from the simple joy of honoring God. In that honor, everyone in our household has been blessed. The dogs are well-fed, her children learned the value of making the most of what we have and the earth has benefited as (most of us) have inherited the art of recycling. Do you see yourself as slothful or diligent? Read this verse again and then ask the Lord what He thinks!
“Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for the abundance and provision that we have available to us. Lord, when I am being wasteful it is taking your goodness for granted. This is a shameful thing. Please shine a light in my heart and show me the areas I do not honor or appreciate you like I should. Help me to see how much this hurts you. I want the best for my relationship with you, my family and the earth that you have given me the honor of living in. Thank you for the blessings you have given me. Today, I choose to see them for what they are: gifts from God. I will take care of all that you give me, Lord. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.”
