“He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life; but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.” Prov. 13:3
Today’s Christian Daily Devotional
I know the truth of this verse all too well. I am by far the most vocal and outspoken member of my family. As Prov. 13:3 promises, I have also managed to bear the markings of a life that was pretty rough and unstable. This reality is something that I have come to face and take responsibility for.
My younger siblings have shown me much wisdom in their meekness. They quietly get done what needs to be accomplished. While they were investing, I was foolishly made a ruckus without much of an actual positive impact.
As I have learned from my own experience, one can be so occupied with the sound of their own voice; that they can quickly forget to do what they proclaim. True wisdom really comes with action. Anything other than that is simply just hot air and a cheap suit.
“Dear Heavenly Father,
I really cannot stand to waste any more of my life with cheap talk and no action. I cannot fool myself with my own foolishness anymore. Give me the sensibility to be quiet and still and to learn from the wisdom and experiences of those around me. Help me to see when my words are not leading me to a place of higher learning, but into a pit of false promises or big talk that I cannot live up to. Give me the wisdom to only speak when it is necessary, and help me to have the kind of life that is full of action and not empty words. In Jesus’ precious name, bless my mouth and all those who can hear it, Amen.”
