“And the Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee; for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.” Ps. 9:10
Today’s Christian Daily Devotional
I had another strange dream the other night that this verse reminds me of. I was walking down the streets of Las Vegas, with a couple of my former colleges. (I used to be an exotic dancer) As the two of them were urging me to hurry up and keep up the pace, I stopped as I felt the Lord tugging on my heart to. They looked at me with a confused stare and continued to hurriedly move on ahead of me. As I was watching them push forward, their bodies suddenly disappeared from the sidewalk. This did not look right. I cautiously stepped forward, looking down. As I did, I noticed that the sidewalk had a deep construction hole in it. There were no warning signs to caution the people on the sidewalk. As I stepped down into the ditch to help my friends get to safer ground, I breathed a thank you for the inner warning from God. When I awoke, I asked the Lord, what lesson this dream had for me. I felt in my heart that God was telling me that I will not avoid the traps, inconveniences and dangers that living in this sinful world will inevitably bring. But, if I continue to listen to His voice, I can be prepared to handle each issue safely as He will guide me through it. Sounds like a good deal to me!
“Dear Heavenly Father,
The world is moving so quickly I sometimes feel the pressure to “hurry up” and enjoy all of it’s pleasures (before it is too late). This is such a silly notion, as only you know how much time I have! There is no rush, as you are a God of peace. I don’t want to get ahead of myself, as that is always when I seem to throw caution to the wind and make decisions that are not firmly grounded in wisdom, but on impulse. Lord, I need you to reign me in. Sometimes I am so hungry and impatient for the goals and desires of my heart—even if they are goals that will bring you glory, impatiently rushing through my list, without continuing to check with you to see if I am on the proper path could actually waste my time and efforts. This way of doing things actually takes more time and causes more trouble, because then I will end up right back where I started only this time—with wounds and issues I did not have before! I want to avoid this. I am tired of wasting the time that you have given me. Help me as I chose to walk in your ways, guide me on this unfamiliar path. I know I am on the right road, even if it seems rocky because your way will always bring me to a better place in the end. Help me to keep my focus on you, and allow me to drop every distraction that is trying to pull me off the path of success in that goal. In Jesus’ precious name, please guide my feet and light my path with your word, Amen.”
