“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” Jer. 29: 11-13
Today’s Christian Daily Devotional
It really discourages me when I hear people blaming God for the destruction and the disaster in their own lives and in the world around us. The consequences of sin destroy so many things on so many levels. The Bible clearly warns against living a life that will reap the kind of destruction and decay that we see happening around us in the world today. Is this God’s fault that we (and our past relatives) have not lived a life abstaining from the things God has warned us keep ourselves from? God has good thoughts towards humanity. He wants good things for ALL of His creation! It is up to us to take that verse and believe it with all our hearts. We are also responsible to take the instructions from the Bible (on how to have a blessed life) and do our best to do follow the wisdom in this, too. Blaming God for the painful results of a sinful life will not help the world’s current situations. As you can see by the watching the news, God really is the ONLY one capable of healing the world on the levels that we need.
“Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your mercy. Your mercy has allowed me the breath I have in my lungs today. Lord, the evil that surrounds us today is so rampant and so discouraging. But, through it all, I soak in my surroundings with the eyes of a child. A fresh flower, a glorious oak tree, a perfectly symmetrical seashell…all of this shows me what an amazing and creative God you are. It humbles me that I know I am made in your image. Out of all of your creation, you chose to bless humanity with this wonderful truth. We were not born to be destroyed or to destroy each other–our sinful natures that we indulge in cultivate the kind of character and choices that do this to ourselves! Lord, bless each one of us that desires to see the side of you that wants to bless us. Show us how we can bring your blessing upon our households, nations and earth again. Have each person that is depressed about the state of the world hold onto the anchor of hope that your Word provides. In this, we will prevail. Thank you; Lord for your mercy exceeds your anger and your judgment. Thank you that you have given us another day to turn from our sinful and wicked ways. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.”
