“Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.” John 8:34
Today’s Christian Daily Devotional
“Yum….look at my lunch!” My friend Andy is grinning widely as he snaps a picture of his favorite sushi takeout. “This is my fourth time ordering dragonfly rolls this week. I think I am addicted!” He laughs as he types this tid-bit of knowledge for all of his Facebook friends to see.
Oh, how our favorite indulgences have a way of “hooking” us! It is so easy to crave more of whatever you are indulging in. That is just how desire works.
But, having actual desires is not necessarily the evil it is made out to be sometimes. We can have good desires or bad ones. But, the ones we “feed” the most are the ones that have the biggest control over us.
John 8:34 brings up a very good point. Sin is something that is easy to slip into. And unfortunately, the results of indulging in it can last longer than a bad roll of sushi. It can take years off your life, ruin your relationships and salvage intimacy with God. Who are you a servant to? Digest that for a moment.
“Dear Heavenly Father,
I see that I am a servant to whomever I chose to serve. I have served myself for so long, I barely realized that I had other options! Forgive me of this, Lord. Today, I stop for a moment and want to just re-focus and re-dedicate myself. I want to serve you. I want to be addicted to serving you so much that I actually crave doing that over serving myself.
Show me how I can love you by being available to the needs of the people you have called me to serve. Give me the wisdom to rest in you, abide in your word and restore myself when I feel depleted. You are all I need and I simply want to be a vessel of your love to a world in much need of it. In Jesus’ precious name, I happily serve you, Lord, Amen.”
