“Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted they wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground.” Ez. 28:17
Today’s Christian daily devotional
Please take a moment and guess just whom this verse is referring to. Did you know that satan was at one time known for being God’s most beautiful creation? Not only did he possess the most beauty, but he was also the most honored and influential angel in heaven.
This, of course, was all before he fell in love with himself. Unfortunately, all that beauty and power lit up his ego. His pride grew to such proportions that God had to do something about it. In Ez. 28:17 we see that the sin of pride is the reason satan was banished from heaven.
Regrettably, the sin of pride is not exclusive to satan. I shamefully admit that I had the same problem with my life. Anybody that puts their own thoughts above the word of God is in fact, placing himself or herself in God’s position.
There is only one God. No matter how educated, beautiful or influential we may be it can all be taken away in a heartbeat. No human being is the master of the universe, even if one feels entitled to build that universe around himself.
God, in His infinite love for mankind, has given each one of us the option to love Him, or to worship something else. Where do you stand? Are you in love with yourself?
Hopefully, you realize you can never be strong enough to release yourself from the power of death and the eternal weight of turning from God. Don’t take satan’s lead. Hell is not a good final destination.
“Dear Heavenly Father,
I have so much pride. I need the humility to give it all to you right now. For some reason, I have given myself full credit for the successes and blessings in my life. I know you had a major part in that, I see that now.
You are the master of the universe that had graciously given me a good life. I repent for taking it for granted, for thinking it came from me and for not appreciating what you have done for me.
Lord, I don’t want to worship myself—but I see that by lifting up my own opinions and ideas that I have elevated myself above you. Help me to read your Word more, so I can get to know your will for my life. In Jesus’ precious name, bless me to go forward and never look back, Amen.”
