“Ye that love the Lord, hate evil; he preserveth the souls of His saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.” Ps. 97:10
Today’s Christian Daily Devotional
Do you HATE evil? This kind of hatred is actually the kind that is healthy for you. Have you ever noticed that when you love someone, you are naturally drawn to loving what they love and hating what they hate? This phenomenon signifies hearts that are closely knit together.
When a person starts to develop an intimate relationship with the Lord, they will notice their hearts drawing them to loving what God loves, and despising what God hates. Evil deeds, words and thoughts hurt other people (God’s creation). Anything evil eventually destroys all that are involved with it. When one begins to hate evil, they are no longer comfortable around the people and places that indulge in it. Naturally, they will avoid these bad influences and environments.
By distancing yourself from evil, you are actually positioning yourself in a prime place to be blessed. The farther we choose to step away from evil, the less chance we have of being destroyed by it. Another benefit of avoiding evil people, habits and environments is that when you do this, you automatically place yourself in closer proximity to God. This is because God’s very nature is so repulsed by evil, that He separates Himself from it.
No one living on this planet today can avoid evil entirely. But, each one of us can use some common sense and step away from obvious fires. Getting burned is never fun.
“Dear Heavenly Father,
I love you. Help me to love you MORE! Help me to love you so much that I will recognize clearly anything that is evil. Let me hate what you hate with such a burning passion that it motivates me to do JUST the OPPOSITE of that! I want to show you my love with my actions. So, I will be a partner with you in my own deliverance. I will not be a lazy believer asking you to help me out of messes I should have avoided if I heeded your Word in the first place. I will NOT! Please help with that. Thank you in advance from saving me from myself. In Jesus’ name, help me to avoid evil and be drawn to the good things in life you have planned for me. Amen!”
