“He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul; but he that hearteth reproof getteth understanding.” Prov. 15:32
Today’s Christian daily devotional
“Why am I not seeing results?” I hear my husband’s client complain as she steps off the scale.
I can see the disappointment in John’s face. With each client he takes on; it is his personal mission to help each of them reach their fitness goals. When they don’t reach their potential, John is just as unhappy as they are.
“I know what we are doing when we meet three days a week for an hour is productive. But, what are you doing when I am not around? Have you been shopping from the grocery list of foods that I recommended to you?” She gazes down at her freshly broken-in Nike shoes.
In Proverbs 15:23 we are warned that if we do not head instructions we are damaging our own soul. The trick to getting understanding is actually listening to the advice being given.
What are you doing with the revelations God is showing you through His word? Are you obeying the promptings He is speaking to your heart? Or, are you doing the minimal and just showing up to church hoping that the pastor will spoon-feed you revelations?
Are you meeting with the personal trainer of your soul on a daily basis? Are you listening to the promptings He is speaking to your heart? Taking in the word of God as your daily nourishment will benefit your whole day in every way—from your attitude, to how you handle stress to keeping the little things in perspective.
Good results come from good investments. If you are looking for divine answers, the answer lies with you. How much do you want to really grow in God? The flesh will always fail to some degree, but if you give your goals to God, He is faithful. He is more committed to your growth than you are!
“Dear Heavenly Father,
I regret that I have to come to you once again to help me set my priorities straight. They are obviously not if I go days and weeks without seeking some private time to reconnect with you. Bless my schedule and open up my eyes to see the moments that I can steal away and bask in your wisdom and presence. I don’t want to bypass the richness of your teachings because I have “better” things to do. Nothing should take a higher priority than my commitment to living the good life that you have planned for me. In Jesus precious name, help me on my quest to grow strong in my spirit through you. I will not be lazy in obedience anymore, Amen.”
