“Dear Heavenly Father,
You gave us the gift of your Word, the Bible. It has survived years of oppression, as it is the very enemy of satan who rules this world.
The power of your word is beyond human comprehension. It is not just a “good book”; it is the book of LIFE. Its very words have the wisdom of God Himself. It is a gift from God to man and the instruction manual on how to have a good life, how to avoid a cursed one, a source of encouragement, motivation and a mirror reflection of how Jesus was the Messiah to the whole world, not just the Jewish nation.
Throughout the ages, many hands have touched your word, and with every human touch, comes another “filter” through which the original word of God cannot be seen as clearly. We loose the impact of your original words. Lord, I am praying for a supernatural understanding of the Bible. I do not know Greek or Hebrew, but I know you, God. You see my heart. You know that I am hungry for you. I am praying that you see the cries of my heart and will have mercy upon my ignorance. Bless me, Lord as I read your word. Please bless my mind and my heart to grasp the meaning behind every verse. If I do not understand something, give me a tenacity to search for understanding through research or wise councel by men and women of God. Lord, as my heart grows in wisdom, let my words and my walk grow in maturity as well. Give me a supernatural understanding and love for the infinite wisdom wrapped up in this powerful book. As I read it, let me hear your voice of instruction clearly. As I hear you, help me to obey you.
Help me as I choose to fashion my life after your words. When I get a deep revelation, please give me a passion to share it with others, as hoarding the “gold” of your word would be shame. It was meant to bless all those who read it and heed it. Lord, I don’t just want to read your word and forget it. Write your wisdom, instruction, knowledge, insight and understanding onto my heart. With every verse that I read, let me be soaked in your presence. Fill my heart with joy and anticipation every time I sit down to read the Bible. I will give my full attention, reverence and concentration to you. In Jesus’ precious name, thank you for blessing me with your favor and wisdom, Lord. Amen.”
